give 3 reasons why young people tend to vote left wing and radical

A
  • young people adapt faster to PROGRESSIVE VIEWS based on ideas of social reform and change
  • as people age and acquire more assets, they focus more on self interested issues rather than social —> HOUSING ACT 1980 under Thatcher, 5 million people who lived in counsil houses bought those houses, they had houses to conserve so Conservative vote
  • young people have FEWER RESPONSIBILITIES so can indulge in more outward looking ideas wheras later in life there are RESPONSIBILITIES of property ownership, careers, family
