Ainsworth SS Flashcards

Q

A03: (S)

A
  • highly operationalized, observers have a clear view of how securely attached infants should behave.
  • due to 4 specific criteria that Ainsworth used.
  • This research has high inter-observer reliability and is replicable so reliability increases
  • SS further carried out and found almost perfect inter-observer reliability from dif observers int terms of exploration behaviour
  • this matter b) is suggests that the SS is a reliable technique for assessing types of attachment as a dif observer agrees on their assessment of child attachment types.

Q

A03: (x)

A
  • Low external validity (ecological)
  • expeirment occurred in artificial environment which may have causes the child distress and affect the results of study
  • ainworsth conducted her observation in a controlled environment and … the children may have acted dif to how they would have acted in a more families place
  • … we do not know if their behaviours displayed by the children would be the same when the children are in a familiar environment making this method of assassin types of attachment less valid.

Q

A03: (x)

A
  • observations was an overt observation as the mother knew they were being watched.
  • as a result there may have bee demand characteristics where the mother changed their behaviours to appear like excellent parent
  • could have effected the child behaviour which would then affect the reusts of the experiment as the researchers would not be observing valid representation of the child bevahour, which could make the SS a less valid measure of attachment
