Definitions of Class 1,2 & 3 helicopters are as follows

A

Class 1 Heli - Fly with one engine off
- If engine failure occurs during flight can continue to a suitable landing area
- If engine fail occurs during takeoff or landing decision point, must be able to land within the takeoff/landing rejection point
Class 2 Heli - Unsafe to fly on single engine
- Engine failure during flight can continue to safe point but if failure occurs during takeoff or landing may cause forced landing
Class 3 Heli - Single engine aircraft
- Engine failure will cause forced landing
