Air pressure Flashcards

(9 cards)

1
Q

What is the difference between warm and cool air

A

Warm air
-not very dense
-rises
-creates lower pressure
-spread out

Cool air
-very dense + moist
-sinks
-creates higher pressure
-close to each other

Q

Would it be high or low pressure if it was a cloudy day?

A

Low pressure because the air particles have no force being pushed on when they rise

Q

Wind always blows from what type of air pressure to what type of air pressure + why?

A

It travels from high to low to balance out the air molecules

Q

How does a sea breeze happen on coastal areas

A

when sunny, the land warms up quicker than the sea. there will be a temperature contrast as the air molecules around the land expand and rise. as the warm air leaves the land, there will be a low pressure across it while the sea would be considered as high pressured. to equalise the pressure difference, there will a breeze from the sea to land. the rush or air is a sea breeze.

Q

Explain how wind is created.

A

Wind is created through to equalise the pressure difference between a low pressured area and a high pressured area. Wind usually travels from high pressure to low pressure to properly balance out. High pressure is usually found in hot places while low pressure is found in colder areas.
