Air Quality Flashcards
(11 cards)
Why is Tucson air quality better than Phoenix?
Tucson has better air quality than Phoenix is because Phoenix has a higher population in people which can drastically affect the air quality
Who determines the quality of air and regulates activities that could lower air quality?
The federal agency is the Environmental Protection Agency-EPA This organization was founded in December 1970.
What is the state Agencies that covers Arizona air quality?
The state agencies that governs AQ is the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality- ADEQ
What are air quality monitors?
provide readings at different, state-wide reading stations which tell governing bodies what air numbers are so that follow up can be done.
Why is it when it rains air quality gets better?
When it rains air quality gets better because water articulates the bad air into the ground making water quality go down but air quality goes up.
What is Ozone
Ozone is a colorless, odorless gas.
Ozone in the stratosphere protects us from
the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays.
What are the three levels of air quality do we study? List them in Correct Order.
Troposphere
Stratosphere
Mesosphere
Where does Ozone come from?
Ozone comes from the burning of fossil fuels (VOC+NOX) with heat and sunlight.
Because light is involved these reactions are called
Photochemical reactions
What is Particulate Matter?
Particulate matter is small airborne solids that suspends in the air and can come from solid or liquid particles
What does particulate matter consists of?
Pm pollution consists of materials including dust, smoke, and soot.
What are five main types of air quality pollution
