Air Track Flashcards
(14 cards)
Velocity
Describes an object’s speed and direction.
Momentum
Describes how hard an object is to stop.
How do you find momentum?
Multiply the objects mass and velocity
How do you find the total momentum?
Add all momentums
What does conservation of momentum mean?
In a closed system, the total momentum of objects will remain constant.
What is Approach velocity?
The relative speed the objects are going before the collision
What is separation velocity
Equal to the difference in objects velocities after collison
What is the equation for Approach velocity?
V1-V2
What is the equation for Separation Velocity
V2’-V1’
What is the equation for conservation of momentum? (Before and after collision
M1+M2V2=M1V1’+M2V2’
WHat is Kinetic Energy?
A measure of an object’s energy of motion
What is conservation of energy?
States that in a closed system, total energy remains constant
What is Elasticity?
Related to the kinetic energy preserved in the collison
How do you find elasticity from the approach and separation and approach velocitys
Divide the Separation velocity by the approach velocity.
