What is decision-making?
The process of making choices or reaching conclusions, especially in government.
What does accountable mean?
Being responsible for actions and being able to explain decisions.
What does provincial refer to?
Relating to a province (like Alberta, Ontario, etc.).
What is a constituency?
A geographic area represented by an elected official (an MLA).
Who is the Premier?
The leader of the provincial government (similar to a Prime Minister but for a province).
Who are constituents?
The people who live in a constituency and are represented by an MLA.
What is a Cabinet?
A group of Cabinet Ministers chosen by the Premier to run government departments.
What is representation?
Acting or speaking on behalf of someone else.
What is the role of a Cabinet Minister?
A Cabinet Minister leads a government department and helps create and carry out government policy.
What are the responsibilities of a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA)?
Representing constituents, debating laws, and holding government accountable.
What is the executive branch?
The part of government that carries out (executes) laws; includes the Premier and Cabinet.
What is a caucus?
A meeting of members of the same political party.
What is the judicial branch?
The part of government that interprets and applies the law (includes the courts).
What is a budget?
A plan for how the government will collect and spend money.
What is the legislative branch?
The part of government that makes laws (includes MLAs and the legislature).
What is a department in government?
A division of government responsible for specific areas, like health or education.
What is the opposition?
Political parties or MLAs who are not part of the government and challenge its ideas.
Who is the leader of a political party?
The head of a political party.
What is revenue?
Money the government collects (mostly from taxes and fees).
What is a vote?
A formal choice expressing support or rejection (such as during an election or on a bill).
What are expenditures?
Money the government spends.
What is an election?
The process where citizens vote to choose their representatives.
What is a bill?
A proposed law that is debated and voted on.
What is a ballot?
The piece of paper or electronic method used to cast a vote in an election.
