Algebraic conventions:
Unknown numbers may be presented in italics, as an x or in lower case letters
How do we simplify algebraic equations? For example a + a?
2a, the number is at the front meaning (number) x the letter. Eg. 3xa= 3a
ax3= 3a
What would a divided by eg. 2 look like?
a/2 or 1/2 a
Following in their simplest forms using algebraic notation?
g x 15
b divided by 3
n + n + n
1 x d
15g
b/3 or 1/3 b
3n
d
I think of a number multiply it by 4 and add 6, what’s the answer? Using algebraic notation
4x+6
Q

n/4 -7
I think if a number, add 3 and multiply by 2
(Multiply everything by the number using a set of brackets)
2(x + 3)
I think of a number subtract 7 and divide by 4
Remember divide everything using brackets.
X - 7
_____
4. Or x/4 -7/4
