describe the two ways ein wich drugs work
A
- drugs can block the reuptake pump on the PSN meaning NT cannot be reabsorbed into PSN. so receptors will continue to be stimulated
- drugs work by mimicing NT so they block the recpetors on the post synaptic membrane so they are not stimulated

A
canabis mimics seretonin and blocks recpetors leading to an influx on seretonin
alchahol blocks reuptake pump meaning dopamine cannot be reabasorbed leading to an influx of dopamine

what else do drugs do
A
they hack into the dopamine reward pathway- increasing dopamine to feel euphoria
as a result the body has to downregulate and stops producing dopamine as a result of the excess

what happens when you come off drugs
A
when you stop taking drugs the body experiances disphoria and withdrawl syptoms such as headaches and nausea
you form a biological dependance on the drug as your threshold limits become increaced
