Adrenaline
Drug class: Sympathomimetic
Presentation: Ampoule, 1mg/1mL (1:1,000) adrenaline
Ampoule, 1mg/10mL (1:10,000) adrenaline
Adrenaline is a naturally occurring catecholamine which primarily acts on Alpha (α) and Beta (β) adrenergic receptors.
The actions of these receptors causes:
* Increase in heart rate β1
* Increase in the force of myocardial contraction β1
* Increase in the irritability of the ventricles β1
* Bronchodilation β2
* Peripheral vasoconstriction α1

Aspirin
Drug class, Presentation & Pharmacology
Aug 2022
Aspirin
Drug class: Antiplatelet
Presentation: Tablet (white), 300mg aspirin
Aspirin inhibits platelet aggregation by irreversibly inhibiting cyclo-oxygenase (COX), reducing the synthesis of thromboxane A2 (an inducer of platelet aggregation) for the life of the platelet.
This action forms the basis of preventing platelets from aggregating to exposed collagen fibres at the site of vascular injury.

Dexamethasone
Drug class, Presentation & Pharmacology
Jul 2022
Dexamethasone
Drug class: Corticosteroid
Presentation: Vial, 8mg/2mL dexamethasone
Dexamethasone is a long acting synthetic corticosteroid that produces anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects.
The precise mechanism by which corticosteroids exert their effect on croup are not fully known.
It is presumed to be based on vasoconstrictive actions in the upper airway, followed by the systemic anti-inflammatory effect.
