  1. Romans 0-200
  2. Germanic invasion 5th century
  3. Christianity explosion, 9th century (160 wine village)
  4. Renaissance (German)= peak and prosperity (16th century)
  5. 30 Years war- 1618-1648 (devastation)
  6. Now French annex, hampered by 1789 French Revolution, Napoleonic wars 1803 and Franco Prussian war (1870
  7. German again, 1871, Phylloxera arrived. Germans insisted replanting with low quality varietals.
  8. French again, end of WWI (order to rip out hybrids, but not enforced
  9. German occupation again. back to France in 1949. Mandated removal of hybrids.
