the cost of housing prevents people from buying or renting home so many house share. some buy a house and rent a room to a friend, people may buy a house together to share bills.
what’s kibbutz as an alternative to family?
first established in israel in 1910. aimed to provide communal living. ordinal kibbutz offered radical alternative to family life. in some children from the age of 6 months lived in communal ‘children home’ where they ate, slept and studied up to age if 18. there are 274 in israel.
what’s residential homes as an alternative to family?
elderly people who struggle to look after themselves may live in residential homes where they have their own room but also may share community life in the home
