1st Amendement
Right to bear arms
2nd Amendement
No Quartering Soldiers.
No Soldier ca be quartered in any house without the consent of the owner.
3rd Amendment
Search and Seizure
Privacy, right to people to be secure in their persons. Can not be searched without warrant or probable cause, or permission from owner.
4th Amendment
Right to be accused.
Can not be tried by the same court twice.
Grand Jury, no double jeopardy, no self incrimination
5th Amendment
How long do those in the grand jury serve?
1-2 years
They only hear the evidence of a crime, they do white collar crimes.
Grand Jury
Right to a lawyer, right to a speedy trial, right to be informed of the nature of the crime (Can not be held if they don’t know the crime they commented)
If you can not afford a lawyer you’ll be assigned one, usually one just out of law school.
6th Amendment
Right to a Jury, in civil suits
7th Amendement
No cruel and unusual punishment
No excessive bails, fines, nor cruel or unusual punishment inflicted.
8th Amendment
Enumerated Rights
Those rules/laws/amendments not listed in the Bill of Rights are reserved to the people
9th Amendment
state rights
If it isn’t in the constitution then its up to the state.
(ex:) Capital punishment is not in the constitution so it is up to the state.
