  • burgoyne crossed hudson and went to 1/2 rations, relying on linking up with howe coming south up hudson river - unable to communicate effectively
  • burgoyne was trapped by the continetal army and had 3 weeks before he starved or had to surrender
  • 4000 british troops vs 9000 patriots
