Peptide bond formation mech
See image

A peptide bond forms what?
An amide bond
What stabilizes the peptide bond?
The resonance delocalization found between the electrons of the nitrogen and the carbonyl oxygen.
What confirguation is a peptide bond?
Planar. The double bond resonance gives a rigid structure.
What is a non-specific way to cleave a peptide bond?
Acid hyrdolysis (strong acid + heat)
What is a specific way of cleaving a peptide bond?
Proteolysis (Enzymes called proteases)
Amine vs. Amide?
Amine = Nitrogen on an alkane. Amide = Nitrogen on a carboxcylic acid
Negatively charged amino acids (Full name + abbreviations)
Aspartic Acid (Asp/D), Glutamic Acid (Glu/E)
Positively charged amino acids (Full name + abbreviations)
Lysine (Lys/K), Arginine (Arg/R), Histidine (His/H)
