Amplified Singing in Contemporary Styles Study Guide Flashcards
(10 cards)
Belting
A type of singing with a longer closed phase of the vocal folds, higher subglottic pressure, greater thyroarytenoid activity, and a weaker fundamental frequency
Closed phase
The length of time that the glottis is closed during one vibratory cycle
Closed quotient
The ratio of the duration of glottal closure to the duration of a complete period.
Open phase
The length of time that the glottis is open during one vibratory cycle
Contact quotient
The degree of vocal fold contact in a given vibratory cycle
Laryngeal placement
CCM styles of singing typically utilizes a more neutral to higher laryngeal placement, as opposed to the neutral to lowered placement of classical singing
Microphones
Microphones are used almost all the time in CCM singing and allow for dynamic control and nuance
Subglottal Pressure
A measure of the lung pressure below the glottis during a phonation.
Vocal Distortion
A voice source signal containing significant aperiodicity (noise), such as grit, growl, scream, and fry; used in some CCM styles.
