Why does priestly use character symbolism?
To present his own views and criticise the way capitalism effects society
“Public men, mr birling, have responsibilities as well as privileges”
Shows how he must accept what he has done as, even though his is rich, he must accept the same treatment as other people
“Why shouldn’t they try for higher prices? We try for the highest possible prices”
Eric begins to show immediate guilt and reassembles socialist views

Sheila begins to feel remorse immediately due to the inspector’s questioning
