Q

How does Sample rate affect sounds?

A
  • The more often samples are taken, the more accurately the readings recreate the waveform of the original analogue signal
  • If sample rate isn’t high enough, highest frequencies aren’t captured/giving a muffled sound

Q

What is Nyquest’s Theorem?

A

Sample rate must be double the highest frequency we want to capture

  • Humans hear up to 20,000Hz,
  • Sample rate above 40kHz to capture the audible frequency range
  • (hence 44.1kHz on CD)

Q

How does Bit Depth affect Sound?

A
  • Higher bit depths mean higher resolution audio
  • If too low, some original signal information is lost
