23
Q

What are the two major divisions of the body?

A
  1. Axial
  2. Appendicular
24
Q

What does the axial division of the body consist of?

A
  • Head
  • Neck
  • Truck (torso)
25
What does the appendicular division of the body consist of?
Upper and lower limbs (extremities)
26
What are the two body cavities?
1. Dorsal cavity 2. Ventral cavity
27
What does the dorsal cavity consist of?
- The cranial cavity: brain - The vertebral Cavity: spinal cord
28
What does the ventral cavity consist of?
- The thoracic cavity: heart and lungs - The abdominal cavity: digestive organs, spleen, and kidneys - The pelvic cavity: bladder, reproductive organs
29
What fluid membrane surrounds the ventral body cavity
Serous membrane: thin doubled layered membrane separated by serous fluid and comprised of 2 parts 1. Parietal serosa: lines body cavity walls (more superficial) 2. Visceral serosa: covers internal organs in the cavity
30
What is the purpose of serous fluid?
- Provides lubrication between layers - Reduces friction
