48
What are inorganic compounds of a cell?
Carbon Dioxide, Oxygen, Water, Salts, Acids and Bases
49
What are the organic components of a cell?
Carbohydrates, Lipids, Proteins, and Nucleic Acids
50
What is endoplasmic reticulum?
Network of tubes that transport materials within cells and provides attachment for ribosomes. Site of protein synthesis= rough ER
51
What are ribosomes?
Attach to rough ER or free floating in cytoplasm. They synthesize proteins from amino acids.
52
What is Golgi Apparatus?
Flattened sacs (pancakes) that package and export proteins in vesicles
53
What is mitochondria?
Power house of cell. Release energy from food and transport into usable form. O2 + glucose= ATP
54
What are peroxisomes?
Involved with lipid metabolism
55
What are centrisomes?
Contain the centrioles
56
What are centrioles?
2 bundles of microtubules that help distribute chromosomes during cell division
57
What is cytoplasm?
Cell fluid and site of metabolic activity where food molecules are received, processed, used, and stored
58
What is nucleus?
Control centre that contains DNA
59
What is nucleolus?
"little nucleus"- made of RNA and protein and assists in production of ribosomes
60
What is chromatin?
Contains DNA strands, and when cell divides the chromatin thickens to rods called chromosomes
