What are the parts of facial expression?
Scalp, neck, eyes, nose, mouth
Forward and backward movement of the scalp
Occipitofrontalis (epicranius)
From inferior border of mandible down to clavicle. Moves the skin over the neck
Platysma
Circles the eye
Orbicularis oculi
Around the eye
Orbital part
Palpebral part
Eyelid
Raises the eyelid
Levator palpebri superioris
From bridge of the nose to lateral eyebrow
Corrugator
From bridge of the nose to medical eyebrow (frowning)
Procerus
Opens and closes the nostrils
Nasalis
Flares nostrils
Dilator naris
Closes the nostrils
Compressor naris
Circles oral cavity in lip and closes and compressed lips
Orbicularis oris
Elevated upper lip
Levator labii superioris
Elevated lip but is poorly developed
Zygomaticus minor
Elevates the corners of the mouth (smile)
Zygomaticus major
Pulls mouth angles upward and towards midline
Levator anguli oris
Pulls down the lower lip
Depressor labii inferioris
Pulls corners of lip down
Depressor anguli oris
Pulls skin up toward the incisors in mandible
Mentalis
The most important part of the mouth
Buccinator
Originates from pterygomandibular raphe and aides in chewing. Musculature of the cheek

Aids in smiling but is usually poorly developed
