17
Q

flexion

A

bringing two bones closer together. e.g front leg lift

18
Q

extension

A

taking two bones further apart, e.g back leg lift

19
Q

abduction

A

moving away from the midline of the body, e.g. side leg lift

Q

adduction

A

moving towards the midline of the body

21
Q

rotation

A

moving along the long axis of the bone

22
Q

plantarflexion

A

moving foot away from the leg, i.e. pointing

23
Q

dorsiflexion

A

moving the foot towards the leg, i.e. flexing

24
Q

inversion

A

moving the foot towards the midline, i.e. sickling

eversion

A

moving the foot away from the midline, i.e. fishing

Q

pronation

A

rolling the foot towards the floor

27
Q

supination

A

rolling the foot away from the floor

28
Q

head

A

spherical protrusions, usually at the end of a narrow ‘neck’ of bone

29
Q

trochanter

A

large ‘bump’ of bone, e.g. greater trochanter on the femur

30
Q

tuberosity

A

medium bump of bone, e.g. pelvis where hamstrings attach

31
Q

tubercle

A

little bump of bone, e.g. humorous

32
Q

condyle

A

large bumps at the end of bone shaped like half tyres, e.g. proximal end of tibia

33
Q

crest

A

large ridge of bone, e.g. iliac crest (hip bones)

34
Q

spine

A

pointy projection of bone, e.g. hip bones

35
Q

fossa

A

a large hollow in a bone, e.g. iliac fossa in pelvis, glenoid fossa in scapular

36
Q

groove

A

a long narrow groove, e.g. bicipital groove in humorous

37
Q

foramen

A

a hole, e.g. in skull where spine becomes brain

38
Q

canal

A

a long hole, e.g. spinal canal
