Persia had a large foot army led by Xerxes with well-trained soldiers; Greece had 7000 men (300 Spartans); Greece held off the Persian attack for 3 days then all but 300 Spartans left the battle to defend Athens; Spartans held off Persians so others could pass and all are remembered for their sacrifice; many killed by bow and arrow which is considered a coward’s weapon and is despised by most Spartans.

This simple concept is complicated by the curvature of the Earth's surface, which forces scale to vary across a map. Because of this variation, the concept of scale becomes meaningful in two distinct ways.

Invaded Persia and carried out his fathers plan. Led 35,000 soldiers at Antonia, fighting 40,000 at the Grancius River. Ordered his best soldiers to attack Darius after he fought Alex near Issus. Egypt proclaimed him a god-king in 332 B.C. Planned to march his men 11,000 miles in 11 years. Planned cities and roads after he returned to Babylon 10 years into the march. Died of a fever at 32 years old.
