How did Greeks use the sea?
It was a highway for trade

Dry and rocky. Not good for farming

How did the mountainous geography affect the city states?
It isolated the city stated causing them to develop independence. Made communication difficult.
How did the land affect their diet?
Limited diet to mainly grains
What was the climate like and how did it affect them?
It was hot and dry which let them live and active outdoor life
How were the winters in Greece?
Wet and rainy
How did the soil effect the animals they had in Greece?
They could not have certain animals because they didn’t have enough food
When was the dark age?
Approx. 1100 B.C.
How did the dark age begin?
People called the Dorian’s invaded Greece
What is a dark age?
A time when civilization undergoes a decline
What were the Dorian’s like compared to the Mycenaeans?
They were culturally primitive (couldn’t write, had poor architecture, etc.)
How did the Dorians successfully invade the Mycenaeans?
They attacked Mycenaeans when they were weak because they were fighting in a civil war
What kind of weapons did the Dorian have?
They had iron weapons
What is a monarchy
Ruled by one person. A king usually back then.
What is an aristocracy?
Ruled by an elite few (developed after the dark age)
What is a tyranny
Ruled by one man who takes power and is chosen by the people. Stays in power by keeping the people happy. Replaced the aristocracy.
What is a democracy?
Direct rule by the people. The people got in all decisions.
