Animal Cells Flashcards
(23 cards)
Is an animal cell multicellular/unicellular and prokaryotic/eukaryotic
Multicellular/eukaryotic
How big are animal cells
100 micrometers
How many types of animal cells are there in an adult
210+
What is an animal cells outer boundary called
Plasma membrane
Describe the nucleus in an animal cell
- Nucleus and organells are mebrane bound
- DNA/genetic material is blound within the nucleus by a double membrane
Name the main two functions of organells
- Hormone/enzyme production
- providing energy
Does the animal cell have a cell wall
No
How do the vacuoles look in animal cells
Large vacuoles/plastids
Why is the animal cell’s shape usually irregular
It has no cell wall
What structures are like the constituents of an animal cell
i also have no idea what that means🤷♀️
Centrioles
Cillia
Flagella
Lysosomes
What organells are found in animal cells and plant cells (6)
Cell membrane Cytoplasm Nucleus Ribosomes Endoplasmic Reticulum Golgi apparatuses/body
WHAT IS a lysosome and it’s FUNCTION
- the digestive system of the cell
- digestive enzymes break down waste molecules
- it helps with detoxification of the cell
- without a membrane, it cant use the distructive enzyme
How many vacuoles do animal cells have
1 or more
Describe vacuoles in animal cells
- bound by a single membrane and small organells
- in many organisms its the storage organelles
What are vesicles
A smaller vacuole which functions for transport in and out of the cell
What is centrioles of centrosome
- a centriole is a small set of microtubes arranged in a specific way
At what angle do teo centrioles meet
Right angle
How many groups of microtubes are there
9
What do centrioles do during cell division
They are found in pairs and move towards the 2 poles (opposite ends)
What are threads and what do treads do during division
Threads= mitotic spindle
Groups attach to the centrioles
Its near the nucleus and not sean during division
Do threads and centrioles work in mitosis or meiosis
Both
What is the difference between the cilia and flagella in appearance
- they are structurally identical
- cilia = short and have large numbers per cell
- flagella = longer and fewer numbers
What are the functions of the flagella and cilia and the difference
They are organells of movement
- flagella = wave like motions
- ciliary movement = power stroke + recovery strokes
