What is the book about
a book about a group of animals who take control of the farm they live on
The animals are fed up of their master so they kick him out. Once he leaves life on the farm is much better, less work, more food , better education
The characters in the book can be split into 3 groups
- the humans
2 the pigs
3 other farm animals
Each groups represents a different element of the Russian Revolution
Describe old major
Old major is a boar / He is very intelligent and well respected. He is an excellent speaker and liked by all the other animals
he ends his speech with a song called Beasts Of England It is about a time when animals are free and humans are overthrown He dies shortly after giving his speech The other pigs follow what he said and create Animalism- a set of rule animals follow
How can you tell everyone liked Old Major and listened to him
everyone was ready to lose an hours sleep to hear what he had to say
Rest time was very precious during Mr Jones rule
Napoleon
he is a threatening and fierce looking boar. He is one of the three pigs that take Old Majors ideas and turn them into Animalism, a system that encourages animals to rebel
he is not a good speaker but got his way with the animals
he gets the support of the sheep He gets them to chant four legs good, two legs bad during debates
Napolean was said to be hypocritical ? how
He said working on Sundays was voluntary , but any animal that didnt work had their food ration halved
snowball
snowball is one of the main pigs He comes up with new ideas and cares about the working animals, His plans and ideas revolve around educating the animals and providing better working conditions
How was Snowball brave
He shows his bravery during the Battle Of The Cowshed
He dashed towards Mr Jones when he was firing his gun
How can you tell Snowball was caring
He wanted all the animals to have a good life and be educated
boxer
a horse a hard worker, strong, loyal, caring . He belives everything Napolean says
he is a hard worker The pigs take advantage of this. Boxer collapses They then sell him to the horse slaughter to buy whisky.
Boxer is uneducated and finds it difficult to express himself
Mr JOnes
The owner of the farm He neglects the farm , spend most of the time drinking and reading the paper and not feeding the animals
He is taken by surprise when the animals take over the farm
How can you tell Mr JOnes was uncaring
He fails to look after the animals puts himself first
When the dogs get old , he ties a brick around their necks and drowns them in the nearest pond
What was the farm called previously
The Manor Farm
The pigs keep milk and apples, was this good
No this was not good because it was rationed for the other animals
Mr Jones tries to take over the farm
Boxer attacks Mr Jones
