Ankle & Foot Flashcards
(14 cards)
The dermatomes of the ankle and foot come from what nerve roots?
L4-S1
What is the anterior drawer test testing for and how is it performed?
Anterior talofibular ligament
Move calcaneous anterior while stabilizing tib/fib
+ = pain/gapping
What is the talar tilt test testing for and how it it performed?
Calcaneofibulr ligament (Ant. talofibular ligament) Isolate talus and gently invert
What is the eversion test testing for and how is it performed?
Deltoid ligament
Gently evert/pronate foot
What is the squeeze test testing for and how is it performed?
Syndesmosis/High ankle sprain
Squeeze tib/fib proximal to ankle then release rapidly
What is the cross leg test testing for and how is it performed?
Syndesmosis/High ankle sprain
Cross affected leg over opposite knee
What is the thompson test testing for and how is it performed?
Achilles tendon rupture
Pt. prone, foot off table, squeeze calf
+ = no plantar flexion of foot
What is the homan’s sign test testing for and how is it performed?
DVT
Forcibly dorsiflex foot with knee extended
What is the moses sign test testing for and how is it performed?
DVT (more specific)
Pt. supine/seated, compress gastroc anteriorly
+ = pain with compression
What ligaments are involved in an inversion ankle sprain?
*Anterior talofibular (always first)
Posterior Talofibular
Calcaneofibular
What ligaments are involved in a high ankle sprain?
Anterior inferior tibiofibular
Syndesmosis
What is Morton’s Neuroma?
Inflammation of tissue surrounding nerve between 3/4th toes
Feels like walking on marble
What is the normal ROM of the ankle for dorsiflexion, plantarflexion, inversion, eversion, and subtalar inversion/eversion?
Dorsiflexion = 15-20˚ Plantar flexion = 50-65˚ Inversion = 35˚ Eversion = 20˚ Subtalar inversion/eversion = 10˚
The achilles reflex comes primarily from which nerve root?
S1
