Generally connects two similar things (i.e. both objects)
Purple patch/ “purple prose”
A sudden heightening of rhythm, diction, figurative language that makes a section of verse or prose - especially a descriptive passage - stand out from its context
Dead metaphor
A metaphor that has become so common that we have become desensitized to the metaphoric quality of the phrase
Comedy
A work in which the materials are selected and managed primarily in order to interest us and amuse us; action usually turns out happily for the chief characters
