1
Q
Describe how the SNS and PSNS innervate the eye
A
SNS = lumbar/thoracic region of spine - short pre-gang (ACh) + long post gang (NA)
PNS = cranial/sacral - long pre gang (ACh) + short post gang (ACh)
2
Q
Which drug groups can act on the SNS/PSNS?
A
SNS: phenylephrine adrenoceptor agonist (mydriatic) dilation
PNS: muscarinic antagonist (cycloplegics)
pilocarpine muscarinic agonist (miotics)
3
Q
Explain the MoAs of these SNS/PSNS drugs
A
Cycloplegics/Mydriatics: inhibits M3 (ACh) receptors inhibits Gq decreases Ca2+ muscle paralysed in SNS
Miotics: agonist in PSNS is opposite of above
