* wide range of causes
* up to 50% idiopathic
* About 60% associated
with HLA B27

What is HLA-B27?

A

Human leukocyte antigen B27 (HLA-B27) is a protein located on the surface of your white blood cells. An HLA-B27 test is a blood test that identifies HLA-B27 proteins.

A

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a long-term condition in which the
spine and other areas of the body become inflamed.
AS tends to first develop in teenagers and young adults. It’s also around 2 times more common in men than in women.
