Why is the TARGET toolkit designed?

A

Designed to be used by the whole primary
care team within the GP practice or out of hours settings but is also relevant to mental healthcare
settings. The toolkit aims to help influence prescribers’ and patients’ attitudes, beliefs and
perceived barriers to optimal antibiotic prescribing.

A

-Ensure evidence based local antimicrobial guidelines are in placed and is regularly reviewed
-Ensure guidelines are audited, antimicrobial stewardship practice and
quality assurance measures
-Report a review of organisations antibiotic consumption data (inc. use of cephalosporins, co-amoxiclav, piperacillin-tazobactam, fluoroquinolones and
carbapenems)
