Differences between Sterile and Aseptic technique

A

Sterile= totally free from microorgansims (not always possible so…)
Only environment which they can be used is operating theatre

Aseptic
Aims to prevent microorganisms being introduced to susceptible sites.
Can use them in both clinical and non-clinical setting

Difference between key parts and key sites

A

Key part-part of equipment that is sterile and only contact other key parts or sites

Key site- Area on patient, e.g. wounds, indwelling devices e.g., IV lines or insertion sites

A

Surgical:
* surgical procedures
* Complex wound dressings
* Central line insertion
* Urinary catheter insertion

Standard ANTT
* Simple wound dressing
* Peripheral access insertion (IV)
* Accessing peripheral and central lines
* TPN administration
