Psychological sx of anxiety?
fear
worry
apprehension
difficulty concentrating
Physical sx of anxiety?
Increased HR
Tremor
Sweating
GI upset
Amygdala centered sx?
Fear, panic, phobia
CSTC centered sx?
Worry, anxious misery, apprehensive, expectation, obsessions
Amygdala Characteristics?
Almond shaped near hippocampus
Interprets sensory and cognitive info and determines if there will be a fear response
CSTC regulated by?
COMT
GABA anxiety role?
role in anxiolytics
inhibitory NT that decreases activities of neurons
Voltage sensitive Ca channel subtypes?
N, P/Q
What drugs bind to the alpha2delta ligands of the N and P/Q VSCCs?
Pregabalin
Gabapentin
What does binding of the alpha2delta ligand of the N and P/Q VSCC do?
blocks the release of glutamate
5-HT does?
NT that innervates the amygdala and CSTC
What drug classes block the 5-HT reuptake by blocking the 5-HT transporter?
SSRI
SNRI
Buspirone use? why?
only for GAD, 5-HT1A agonist
SNRI short term vs long term?
SHort bad b/c can worsen sx but, long term once beta1 receptors downregulate the fear/worry seem to improve
NE regulator of amygdala and which parts of the CSTC?
PFC/thalamus
SSRI/SNRI 1st line for?
GAD, PD, SAD,PTSD, OCD
Pregabalin/gabapentin 1st line for?
GAD, SAD
Prazosin 1st line for?
trauma related nightmares in PTSD
Propranolol, atenolol use?
for performance related SAD
Medication considerations (chart)
GAD more common in male or female?
Female 2:1 ratio
Onset of GAD?
late adolescents or early adulthood
