Anxiety and Depression Treatment Flashcards
(15 cards)
what 3 principles involved in CBT training
behaviour, thoughts, feelings,
how your thoughts/beliefs/attitudes affect feeling and behaviour
combines cognitive therapy and behaviour therapy
what is selective abstraction
drawing conclusions on basis of just one element of a situation with many
what is arbitrary inference
drawing conclusions when little/no evidence
theory of depression
reduced serotonin receptors in hippocampus
MAOI
MoA
Examples
SE
Mono Amine Oxadase Inhibitiors
increases level of norepinephrine, serotonin, dopamine (by inhibiting their breakdown)
eg. phenelzine, selegilline
SE: weakness, dizzy, headache, fatigue, weight gain, impotence
MAOI interactions
what should you do if want to give
SSRI/tricyclics
analgesics (morphine, tramadol)
as will inc serotonin too high (confusion, hypertension, tremor, coma)
wait 14 days washout after stopping MAOI before starting others
AND foods high in tyramine can cause hypertensive crisis (cheese, meats, alcohol, some veg)
What is moclobeminde/ RIMA
reversible MAOI
can be changed with only 1 week washout
tyramine has less of an effect
Tricyclics TCA
MoA
Uses
Examples
inhibit re-uptake of norepinephrine/serotonin. inc conc in synapse.
Depression/anxiety, chronic pain (fibromyalgia), IBS, neuralgia
eg. amitriptyline, nortriptyline
Cautions with TCAs
in CVD - risk of arrythmias
reduce intestinal mobility (antimuscarinic mobility): bradycardia, reduce bronchial secretions, urinary retention, dry mouth
OVERDOSE
SSRI
MoA
Examples
Uses
increase levels of serotonin by limiting its reabsorption
eg. citalopram, sertraline, fluoextine
Depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, eating disorder
SSRI side effects
Sexual: dysfunction/libido
Cardiac: citalopram=prolonged QT interval
Bleed: inc risk of GI bleed
Suicide *****
What type of drug is duloxetine
uses
SE
SNRI - selective norepinephrine up-take inhibitor
depression, neuropathic pain (diabetic), stress urinary incontinence
SE: nausea, insomnia, dizzy
What type of drug is venlafaxine
SNRI (4th line antidep) major depressive diorder anxiety panic social phobia
what’s the problem with drug induced QT prolongation
can lead to torsades de pointes (arrythmia)
who is at risk for QTc
major psych disorder
CVD
the elderly
women
