Anything Flashcards
(9 cards)
Terrestrial sources of CO2
Respiration, fire (fossil fuel combustion, biomass burning)
Terrestrial sinks of CO2
Photosynthesis
Sinks for Methane
reaction with OH, dryland soils
Sources of Methane
wetlands, rice paddies, Micro-organisims in cattle rumen, termites
Terrestrial sources of N2O
denitrificiation, biomass burning, fossil fuel combustion,
soil microorganisms, nitrifying bacteria
Sinks of N2O
Reacting with activated oxygen in the atmosphere.
Why are tropical forests rich in nutrients?
The high temperature and moisture of tropical rainforests cause dead organic matter in the soil to decompose more quickly than in other climates, thus releasing and losing its nutrients rapidly.
Controls on Isoprene emissions (3)
Light levels, biosynthetic rates, temperature
Controls on terpenes emissions (2)
Temperature, the gradient between leaf and air (controlled by vapor pressure of monoterpenes)
