What is a concerto?
a musical composition for a solo instrument or instruments accompanied by an orchestra, especially one conceived on a relatively large scale.
What does tutti mean?
Tutti is when all the orchestra in a concerto plays
What is a Cadenza?
A virtuoso solo passage inserted into a movement in a concerto or other musical work, typically near the end.
How would a musician play virtuosically?
They would play in quick scales/arpeggios at extreme registers, large leaps (ornamentation).
What are themes in a concerto?
(Musical phrases and ideas) are passed between the soloist and the orchestra.
When was the Baroque era in music? (Name the year period not century)
1600-1750
What are terraced dynamics?
It is when the whole ensamble will change volume suddenly with hardly any crescendo’s or diminuendo’s. And every part of the ensamble is at the same dynamic at that time.
What is a continuo section? (Cello, lute, harpsichord/organ)
The cello would play the bass line while the chordal instrument play chords to fill in the texture.
