Groups of individuals often with a shared interest that could potentially work against the public good

An armed uprising in 1786 led by farmers in Massachusetts protesting economic hardships and high taxes highlighting the weaknesses of the articles of confederation
Shays rebellion
A structure proposed by James Madison where government power is limited to protect individual rights achieved through checks and balances and a separation of powers
Madisonian Model
A system in which each branch of government can limit the power of the others to prevent any one branch from becoming too powerful. Ex: president can veto laws, congress can override a veto and courts can declare laws unconstitutional
