House of Representative

  • house of representatives is based on population, bigger states getting more representatives. each state is guaranteed one representative. currently 435 seats in the house
  • Speaker of the house, a constitutionally defined position is the most powerful person in congress. Speaker leads the house and is elected by its memebrs

  • All bills raising taxes must originate in the house but can be amneded by the senate

A
  • composed of two representatives from each state (elected by the people)
  • Vice president presides over th senate but has no vote unless the senate ties in a vote
  • The senate tries all the impeachments made by the house (the supreme court tries the impeachment of the president)

The President
