Damage to left frontal love causes reduced speech fluency with comprehension relatively preserved

A

Difficulty naming familiar objects

Anomic aphasia or amnestic aphasia

What is a Wernicke’s aphasia? AKA?

A

Left temporo-parietal damage leaves language that is fluent but the words themselves are incorrect

Receptive aphasia / posterior aphasia

What is a global aphasia? AKA?

A

Combination of Broca’s and Wernicke’s - the patient can neither speak or understand language. Due to widespread damage to speech area and is the commonest aphasia after a severe left hemisphere infarct

How does a dysarthria differ from a aphasia?

A

Language is intact in dysarthria as they are disorders of articulation

Caused by paralysis, slowing or incoordination of muscles of articulation
