Describe Catholic beliefs about euthanasia and assisted suicide.
They believe it is wrong.
This is because of sanctity of life.
Genesis teaches humans were created imago dei so no one should end life.
JP2 said euthanasia breaks the laws of god.
Alternatives such as Palliative care wjere people with terminal illness can have their pain and suffering relieved.
Breaks the commandment ‘Do not kill’.
Explain why the Catholic Church says euthanasia is wrong.
There is a clear alternative to euthanasia called palliative care where doctors can prescribe drugs and offer support to let a person die naturally.
Goes against the commandment ‘Do not kill’.

Human Rights make people argue we should have a human right to die how and when we wish.

Euthanasia means ‘easy and gentle death’. Most loving action if it combats a persons pain and suffering.
Describe Catholic teaching about life after death.
Resurrection of the body. Humans are raised from the dead in a new body at the end of the world which is eternal life.
Immortality of the soul. Every humans soul can live on after the death of the physical body.
God is judge. Good are rewarded with heaven and the bad are punished in hell.
Jesus’ resurrection. He made life after death possible.

Resurrection of the body. Death is not the end and humans will be raised in a new body at the end of the world which is eternal life.
St Paul teaches the flesh and blood cant live after death.
Immortality of the soul means the soul can live on after the death of the physical body.

Describe Catholic beliefs about heaven, hell and purgatory.
Heaven-place of reward seen in the parables of the unforgiving servant and the sheep and goats. Its eternal joy and happiness where people will be in the prescence of God.
Hell-place of punishment for remorseless sinners as they do not make good choices and separate themselves from God.
Purgatory-You have to be perfectly pure to go to heaven and this is where purification takes place. Prepares people for eternal life in heaven.

Heaven is a place of reward as seen in the parables of the unforgiving servant and the rich man and lazarus. It is a place of eternal joy and happiness in the prescence of God.
Hell is a place of punishment for remorseless sinners. This is aplace where people separate themselves from God shown in sheep and goats.
St Paul described purgatory ‘It will be revealed with fire and fire will test the quality of each persons work’. You have to be perfectly pure to go to heaven and purification takes place here.

The extrodinary Magesterium focuses on councils that include lead Bishops of all countries.
Extrodinary Magesterium focuses on the Pope where he can make declarations and teachings whilst guided by the Holy Spirit.
Explain why the Magesterium is important for Roman Catholics.
Teaching authority of the Church. Puts forward teachings that were not covered in the Bible.
It is linked to Apostolic Succession which is the belief all Popes can be traced back in succession to Jesus.

The extraordinary magesterium focuses on councils that include the lead Bishops of all countries. It is also focused on the Pope where declarations and teachings can be made by the Pope when he is guided by the Holy Spirit.

People were given jobs such as readers or giving out Communion.
The Church is the body of Christ in the world today. All people have an equal part in passing on the message of Jesus.
St Paul-Jesus was the head of the Church but the people are his body, arms, legs, hands, feet.

Bishops all over the world came together to discuss how Catholicism needed to meet the challenges of the modern world.
Gaudium et spes-how Catholics should interact with the world over wider issues.
Dei verbum-shows how important the Bible is and Catholics should use Bible as part of prayer.
Lumen gentium-puts more emphasis on the people within the Church.
Sacrosantum concilium-changed how Catholic mass took place.

It was an extraordinary council to discuss how Catholicism needs to meet the challenges of the modern world.

Catechism defines prayer as ‘raising the heart and mind to God’. Prayer is being focused and communicatinf with God.
Adoration-worshipping God and praising God.
Confession-asking God for forgiveness.
Thanksgiving-giving thanks to God.
Supplication-praying for your needs and the needs of others.
Formulaic prayers- Our Father, Hail Mary.
Extempore prayers- spontaneous prayer that does not require planning or preparation.
Explain why prayer is important for Roman Catholics.
Catechism defines prayer as ‘raising the mind and heart to God’. Being totally focused on God and communicating with God.
Jesus taught the Our Father. It is a model prayer as it contains the 4 types of prayer. Meaning you can focus on yourself l, others and God when you pray.
Formulaic prayers help Catholics connect with God. They can confess sins, worship God and ask God to help themselves and others.
Pope Francis taught prayer can help people come to terms with suffering. They will intercede on our behalf.

The sacrements are the most important part of Catholic life. Being baptised mean you become part of the Church community.
Eucharist/mass. Mass is said to be ‘the source and summit of Christian life’ because it unites Christians with God. They come closer to God when they recieve Jesus in communion.
Belief in God and Jesus. They believe Jesus is the incarnation.
Trinity is more important. God is three persons in one.
Deacribe the Roman Catholic funeral service.
The coffin may be brought to the Church the night before the funeral. It is sprinkled in holy water as a reminder of the dead persons baptism and the promise of sharing Jesus’ resurrection.

Mass has readings and prayers focused on eternal life.
End with burial or cremation. Family throws earth into the grave showing they are laying their loved ones to rest.

The coffin is sprinkled with holy water which expresses beliefs about eternal life as it is a reminder of the dead persons baptism and the promise of sharing Jesus’ resurrection.
White pall represents the white garment worn in baptism and the incense shows the body is sacred and being lifted to God.
Crucifix and gospel placed on the coffin shows Jesus overcame death and resurrected.
