Are Smartphones Killing Cameras? Flashcards
(6 cards)
Frustrated with sth
If you are frustrated with sth it means you are disappointed(Unhappy) with it, you are not happy with it.
Sometimes getting a bit frustrated with the quality once they sort of started pushing their creative skills… .
Getting into Sth
Getting into sth means becoming very interested in it.
… & sort of getting into photography that way & that’s really great first step into it … .
Say cheese.
Thank you, a little souvenir of our time together.
Let’s have a look.
Hang on a minute.
You just took a selfie, I wasn’t even in the picture.
Well, that’s the magic of the smartphones, two cameras!
Dropped of a cliff
Dropped of a cliff, this rather dramatic expression describes a very big fall in sales.
I think while compact camera sales have really sort of dropped of a cliff, it’s the lower end, … .
We are certainly in the digital age of photography but when was the first digital camera photo released?
I know this one, I’m gonna be fair & keep it for myself.
In the year 2000.
There are compact cameras, which are small & mostly automatic & usually come with a fixed lens.
Obsolete
Obsolete, which describes sth that’s being replaced & is no longer the first choice.
Have cameras been made obsolete by the smartphones?
And then there are SLR’s & DSLR’s which are bigger, & You can change the lenses on these cameras & they allow for a lot of manual control.
And there are also mirrorless cameras, which are cross between compact & DSLRs.
Opt for sth
Opt for sth You choose it rather than sth else.
… & cheap compacts where people have opted for a smartphone & I think manufacturers are looking @ the more … .
Taking the next rung up
A rung is the horizontal step of a ladder, so the expression taking the next rung up is a way to describe doing sth @ a higher level.
… & then looking to see what’s the next rung up is it’s people wanting to broaden their creative skills a bit.
