Argentina lies in the Rainshadow of the Andes and largely consists of Desert, it is hot continental
- Drought, Irrigation is necessary, often by flooding some Drip Irrigation
-Some Spring Frosts
-Hail, Netting and spread out Vineyard locations
- Against the heat, vines are Pergola or now often vertically trellised, away from the ground and with overhanging green parts

- lighter styles; grown in higher altitude, gentle extraction, elegant, fresh, floral Aromas, often also new oak

Can be single varietal or blended with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot

Bonarda is the second most planted Variety in Argentina, it’s late ripening, deeply colored with high acidity and Tannin

  • Commonly made at high yields, easy drinking, fruity raspberry and blackberry
  • at controlled yields with full berry ripeness, making wines with greater concentration and structure

Central Mendoza produces high quality Grapes, Lujan de Cuyo and Maipu are of note

Lujan de Cuyo makes very fine Malbec on 900-1100 Meters asl, old vines make concentrated, complex wines

The Maipu Department further east with some lower altitude locations, where much high volume inexpensive Grapes are produced
also some old vine Bonarda and Tempranillo
Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon also perform well

The Uco Valley is a source of high quality Grapes, vineyards lie at 900-1500 meters asl cool nights help to retain acidity, fresh fruit flavours and sometimes floral notes

Chardonnay, Torrontes, Sauvignon Blanc, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Tempranillo and Pinot Noir are grown
