A

If the authorising officer has reason to suppose that officers may need to protect themselves or others against
a person who is in possession of or has immediate access to a firearm or other lethal weapon.
Someone that is otherwise so dangerous that the recourse to firearms would be deemed as appropriate.
OR
As part of a pre-planned contingency.
OR
For the destruction of a dangerous animal or animal suffering unnecessarily.
