Q
PRRSV (porcine repo and resp syndrome)
- types of dz virus causes
- method of transmission
- zoonotic?
- does it change/recombine/mutate
- distribution
- diagnosis
- differential diagnosis
- control
A
- anorexia, fever in sow farm. LATE TERM ABORTION AND EARLY FARROWING, in the nursery form respiratory dz complex
- transmission from incoming breeding stock, infection by respiratory route, in utero infection, semen. has affinity for alveolar macrophages. VIREMIC for 35 days
- if infected in early gestation –> failure of conception
- if infected midgestation –> no signs
- if infected late –> most obvious. weak, mummified piglets - not zoonotic
- europe and usa
- IFA, ELISA, SN (after 35 days), virus isolation and pcr on serum/ lung of piglets, histopath of lung
- differential diagnosis- pseudorabies (but no early farrowing), porcine circovirus?
- control- vaccinate. but be careful when putting vaccinated and nonvaccinated pigs together bc can still transmit virus.
