Describe the articles of confederation
A
- each state would have one vote regardless of population size.
- state delegations consisted of 2-77 people
- crucially, congress had no powers to levy taxes, regulate trade or enforce financial requisitions
- no provision for a national executive or president
- congress could declare war, raise an army or navy
- could borrow and issue proper money, conclude treaties and make alliances
- important treaties needed the approval of at east 9 states
- all powers not in the confederation were reserved to the states

Issues with the articles of confederation
A
- no powers to impose taxes, had to pay for war by issuing paper money
- also no system of currency- making trade much more difficult and much less efficient
- they heavily relied on state help for treaties- 9/13 states
- had printed off paper money too pay for war with Britain- had led to high levels of inflation, which was not helped by the no way of issuing taxes
