What did Asch do with group size?

A

Asch increased the size of the group by adding more confederates. Conformity increased with group size but only up to a point

What did Asch do with Unanimity?

A

The extent to which the group agrees. When the confederates were unanimous there was the greatest amount of conformity with the naive participants

A

Conformity increases when the the task becomes harder. Participants assume the majority is right

What did Soloman Asch (1951, 1955)

A

Showed two white cards at a time. One with a standard line and one with three comparison lines. One of the three lines were equal length to the standard line. Participants were asked to match the correct lines

A

Naive participants gave the wrong answer 36.8% of the time
25% did not conform on any of the trials
When interviewed afterwards participants said they conformed because of social pressure
