Q

What is asexual reproduction?

A

Method of reproducing offspring that does not involve the fusion of different gametes

It results in genetically identical offspring

e.g. plants, bacteria, yeast- through binary fission, fragmentation, budding

Q

What is sexual reproduction?

A

In sexual reproduction, there are typically two parental contributions (egg and sperm) to each offspring.

Some animals can change their sex during their lifetime. They are called hermaphrodites.

Q

Advantages and disadvantages of asexual reproduction

A

Advantage: Time Efficient; no need to search for mate, requires less energy, larger number of offspring

Disadvantage: No variation - if the parent has a genetic disease, offspring does too.
