Why was Franz Ferdinand assassinated?
A group from The Black Hand Gang (Serbian terrorists) decided to kill Franz Ferdinand because they hated Austria - Hungary.
How did Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sophie, die?
One man threw a hand grenade at the car but it deflected and went into the crowd.
It was decided to stop the procession and take the Archduke to visit the wounded in hospital.
The driver went the wrong way and stopped to turn round, this was when a member of The Black Hand Gang saw the car and shot both the Archduke and his pregnant wife.
What happened after Franz Ferdinand was shot?
Austria - Hungary declared war on Serbia.
Russia had promised not to back down again so they got their army ready to help Serbia.
This made Germany put the Schlieffen Plan into action
How did this cause war?
Both Russia and Germany had promised to fight and not to back down so they had to get involved to help.
