Section 20 Offences Against the Person Act 1861?

A

Section 20 - Grievous bodily harm (GBH) INTENT

Whoever shall unlawfully and maliciously by any means whatsoever wound or cause GBH to any person or with intent to resist or prevent the lawful apprehension or detainer of any person shall be guilty of an offence

(Triable, either way offence) – Most usually crown court

A

If someone assaulted an officer, they would charge with assault not section 89.
It is an offence for any person to:
 Assault
 Resist a police officer
 Or Any person assisting the officer in the lawful execution of his duty
