What classfication system can we use to establish a patients physical status?
ASA American Society of Anaesthesiologists
What does ASA 1 indicate?
Patient with no systemic disease
What does ASA 2 indicate?
patient with mild systemic disease which has no effect on the patients life style
What does ASA 3 indicate?
A patient with moderate systemic disease which affects the lifestyle
What does ASA 4 indicate?
Patient that has severe systemic disease and is a constant threat to their lifestyle
What does ASA 5 indicate?
a ot that is not expected to survive 24 hours without treatment
what does ASA 6 indicate?
clinically brain dead
In which ASA groups can you perform sedation in a primary care setting?
those with ASA 1 or 2
In which ASA groups can you perform sedation in specialiat settings?
ASA 3 +
What baseline records should be taken to assess someones physical ability to cope with sedation?
Blood pressure
Pulse rate and O2 saturation
